A Danish family business since 1933
Skovby was founded in 1933 by cabinetmaker Thorvald Rasmussen. With vision, strenuous effort and professional pride he created a foundation for sustainable and functional furniture design, which his son Villy Rasmussen and grandsons Preben and Jørgen Rasmussen have carried on ever since. Skovby furniture has been produced in Denmark for more than 80 years, based on working methods that support uncompromising craftsmanship, people and the environment.
The driving force, and a shared passion spanning the three generations of cabinetmakers, is function. Skovby was among the frontrunners within functional extension systems for tables. Architect Per Hånsbæk has developed a long line of Skovby dining room furniture for more than 25 years. Each piece of furniture with a distinct balance between design and functionality, which he believes to be of equal importance.
Today, Preben and Jørgen Rasmussen run an international, high-technology business with a positive environmental imprint. The profile is well-thought-out, timeless and lasting design with international appeal.

Honesty
Skovby furniture is made from natural materials, selected with consideration and respect for nature, environment and people. Wood is one of the most sustainable and lasting resources that exists. Sustainable forests in Europe and North America are increasing. Wood that we obtain from such forests is replaced, which supports preservation of ecosystem diversity. Our excess wood is used as fuel. All wood chips and shavings are utilized for heating our premises and contribute to a positive carbon-dioxide accounting and make up a valuable resource in our pursuit of a carbon neutral production.
Innovation
It pays to design, construct and produce furniture within the same physical environment. By doing so we achieve cohesion that contributes to a sustainable business model. This is good for our business, environment and people.
By keeping all production under one roof, we achieve strong involvement and broad representation of interdisciplinary competencies, which are all within short-range from initial idea to finished product. Our products are developed through close interaction between cabinetmakers, technicians and the company architect. And together they pursue to reach new heights with multifunctional and lasting designs.
